Scott Whitener is the pastor at Catawba Heights Wesleyan Church in Belmont, NC, in the greater Gastonia, NC area. His distinct and powerful lead voice remains one of the most recognizable voices in gospel music. Scott’s professional gospel music career began in the mid 1980s with the award-winning Singing Americans, and continued with Jericho and The Melody Masters Quartet. From 2003-07, Scott led worship at the “Exciting Ragan Church" where his Ragan Praise Choir was been featured at regional and state Wesleyan events. An ordained minister, Scott and his wife Judy live in Gastonia, NC.
Chris Roberts is Associate Pastor of Music and Drama at the 3,000-member Mud Creek Baptist Church in Hendersonville/Flat Rock, NC where he serves with prominent Southern Baptist leader and Senior Pastor Dr. Greg T. Mathis. Chris leads a diverse worship ministry that features a 150-member Worship Choir and Orchestra. A member of the Melody Masters Quartet from 1996-2000, Chris’ efforts in gospel music earned him critical acclaim and wide respect as a tenor, keyboardist, and emcee. Chris holds both a Bachelors (Gardner-Webb University) and a Masters (Southern Baptist Theological Seminary) degree in music. An ordained minister, Chris is married to Janet. They have two teenagers, Tara and Nathan, and reside in Flat Rock, NC.
Roger Burnett has been singing gospel music for several decades, and from 1996-2001 traveled professionally as a member of the Melody Masters Quartet. He continued his professional traveling days with Ken Turner and the New Millennium as well as the Blackwood Quartet. Roger’s genuineness and gentle spirit have endeared him to gospel music fans and friends throughout the United States and Canada. His blending baritone voice is a key to the tight harmony of the CQ. An ordained deacon and member of Chesnee First Baptist Church, Roger and his wife Nell live in Chesnee, SC.
Lamar Levi is undoubtedly “one of the best singers you have never heard!” After many years of singing mainly in local church venues, Lamar joined the Carolina Quartet upon its inception in 2006 and is already being well received by gospel music fans. His first solo project releasing in the fall of 2006 will feature many “bass singer classics." An ordained deacon and member of Mud Creek Baptist Church in Hendersonville, NC, Lamar is married to Rebecca. They have two teenage sons, Caleb and Nathan, and make their home in Zirconia, NC.
David Bruce Murray is Minister of Music at Corinth Baptist Church in Ellenboro, NC, where his 15-year tenure is one of the longest in the region. He is a noted Southern Gospel music reviewer and author. His book Murray’s Encyclopedia of Southern Gospel Music has been acclaimed for its authoritative and comprehensive insight into the history of Southern Gospel music. David organized Southern Sounds Quartet in 1994, a regional group based in Rutherford County, NC, and continues to accompany them when he is not playing keyboard for the CQ. David and Chris Roberts were classmates at Gardner-Webb University from 1984-86, where David earned a Bachelors degree in music. David also holds a Masters degree in Music Theory (Converse College). He resides in Sunshine, NC.
